This Desert Moon ornament highlights the impressive heritage techniques of the Tuareg. For these nomadic pastoralists who traditionally inhabit a vast area in the Sahara Desert, the moon is a symbol of protection and prosperity.

About the craftsmanship
The traditionally nomadic Tuareg of northern Mali are renowned for their fine craftsmanship. In the Tuareg culture, artisans belong to a heredity ‘closed’ caste which includes blacksmiths, leatherworkers, and jewellers – they are artisans at birth. As a result, Tuareg pieces carry the motifs of countless generations, and serve as a repository of Tuareg heritage and culture.
