Meet one of the artisans of the Sisterhood Pouch: Fekriya

Each is intricately embroidered by talented Syrian refugee women, including artisans like Fekriya, who has been a part of the MADE51 family for seven years.
For Fekriya and many others like her, embroidery is more than just a skill—it is a lifeline. It provides them with a means to support themselves and their families, while also instilling a sense of pride and accomplishment in their work.
Fekriya's journey exemplifies the transformative power of dignified work. Through her work with MADE51, she has gained confidence and independence, no longer defined solely by her roles as a wife and mother. Instead, she feels she is a productive member of society, making a tangible difference through her craft.
“This job has made me feel valued and important, in my own eyes. I became a contributing member in society. I don’t only do the dishes, cook, and raise the kids. I do more now, and I can stand on my own feet.”
Beyond the economic benefits, Fekriya's work has also provided her with a sense of belonging and community. Through her friendships with fellow artisans and the support of MADE51 social enterprise partner, Rim N' Roll, she has found a support network that uplifts and encourages her every step of the way.
"I made excellent new friendships. I was alone before. Always at home, never getting out, I didn't know anyone. It is a very good relationship (with the other artisan women); we are all friends who keep in touch. They help me and even bring me embroidery supplies if I couldn’t leave the house."
